Baffling

As I walked out of work this evening, I happened to glance over at the dumpsters across the parking lot.  I work pretty close to the foothills, and wildlife is pretty common in the area – bunnies, deer, foxes, the occasional elk, and even mountain lions have been known to prowl down into the neighborhoods and business parks.

So when I caught a glimpse of something black and white and obviously skunk-like, I was immediately alert.  There was that brief moment of, “hey, a skunk!” but almost immediately I was pretty sure that something was…not right.

I wandered closer for a more careful inspection.

And then I stood and stared for a moment.

I have no idea what that thing is.  I have no idea why someone in my office building wanted to throw it away.  (Okay, I take that back.  I mean…look at it.)  I have no idea why someone, having decided to throw it away, decided that instead of putting it in the dumpter they would set it next to the dumpster.  It was utterly perplexing.

I do, however, think it says something about my increased maturity and common sense that I resisted the urge to bring it home with me.

    Maybe a planter?

You are a stronger woman than I. That little nugget would totally be living on my back porch right about now.

I also think it’s a planter. That would have come home with me to live in my garden. Cute little skunky!

I bet they did it just to perplex folks like you. ;) I know I would have… if I would have thrown him out in the first place, which is really not likely.

Must be a planter. Hee hee – it definitely increased the surreality of your day, didn’t it?

No! I would have definitely brought it home with me. It looks like a fun planter. :)

Hey, the holidays are coming. Those things are useful in these parts.

I’m thinking planter as well. You could always paint it into some other animal with a tail.

That’s funny. Like the bug that was GIANT and crawling on my desk yesterday afternoon. Ok, that wasn’t funny, that was creepy and apparently I’m scared of bugs. The good news is that I didn’t find it in my coffee mug this morning. Mandy thought I should hock it over my cube, but I thought that might be a little mean.

Everyday Food… ^.^ Sure if they’re taking up space in your place that you’d rather have for something else I’d love to nose around on them. I don’t know if I’ve actually ever made anything out of them, but I always like to think I will.

I’m another vote for planter and I would have needed to bring it home with me.

I throw in my vote for planter. And I bet that they left it outside the dumpster in the hopes that someone would take pity on it and take it home to a new life.

I’m not sure I could have resisted. He is really cute, you’ve got to admit.
