Happy birthday to me!
And Bradon won’t let me open my presents yet. Poo.
Bradon always laughs at me, because my birthday is never really just a birthDAY. It’s a birthweek, usually, and sometimes even a birthmonth. Presents trickle in at irregular intervals, because shipping gets wonked or things are ordered at the last minute. The gathering with friends gets postponed to the closest weekend, or perhaps the weekend after that – whenever there’s an opportunity. My parents spoil me rotten and continue to send gifts after my birthday has passed. I start pulling out the “but it’s my birthday!” card around April 10, and continue to use it as long as I can, usually well into May. Because I’m a selfish bitch like that. ‘Cause hey! It’s my birthday!
I’m a little bummed, however, because my desk at work isn’t decorated. Usually they (the ambiguous “they”) decorate people’s desks with crepe paper streamers on their birthdays. This is my third birthday here, and they decorated my desk the first two years. And while I find the corporate birthday celebration scenario so very odd (a bunch of people who don’t know you or don’t like you standing around, mumbling the words to “Happy Birthday,” then snagging a piece of cake and retreating to their desks)…I’m kind of sad that I don’t get the crepe paper this year. Paranoid me. Did they forget? Do they hate me? They gave me cake last week (all birthdays for the month are celebrated on one day, to cut down on cake costs) – but no crepe paper? It’s so stupid, but I feel a little left out.
Oh, but I’ll get over it. Bradon’s taking me out to Bombay Clay Oven for dinner (mmm…Indian food), and we’re going to go pick out a cake tonight (I’m super-picky, so I get to be involved in the selection process. I suspect he also forgot until it was too late.) This Saturday I get to play my super-special NPC, and then sometime next week (Friday, I think?) we’ll do the social gathering, with dinner at Ras Kassa’s (mmm…Ethiopian food) and…um…something. One of the best gifts that Bradon gives me every year is the freedom from having to make decisions and plans and coordinate people, so I’m never entirely sure how my birthday is going to go. I’m okay with that.
In the meantime…Knithulhu!
Isn’t he cute?
It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty pleased. If I were doing it again, I’d move his eyes closer together (i.e. not on either side of his head), and I’d probably knit it a little tighter – you can see the stuffing through the stitches, especially on the back. The stuffing can’t leak out, but the white underneath is not ideal (to me). But otherwise…pretty cute. I think Carol will like it.
And don’t forget…contest entries are due at 12:01 am! Google is your friend!

Happy Birthday!!! I’m a fan of the birthweek as well. And my brother and his fiancee have taken to both giving each other presents on both of their birthdays (though the actual birthday person gets more) so no one feels left out. I thought that was cute. And I unwittingly participated by having mostly presents for her on her birthday, but one for him too. SO yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy, happy, happy birthday!!!! Happy birthday!
(I would decorate with crepe paper if I were there. Hell, I’d probably be throwing crepe paper around the room and making everyone sing happy birthday.)
Hope your day is super-wonderful-great!
Oh, and Knithulhu is adorable. I love him.

Happy Birthday! Mine was on Monday. I walked up to my LYS and treated myself to some Socks That Rock which they’d just got in. (ahem, YAY). Yesterday I treated myself to a new haircut, and tonight my Dad’s taking me out for a fancy dinner. With my 5 yo boy. Who will either be lovely, or a complete disaster. Time will tell. Keep for fingers crossed for lovely, ‘kay?

I was thinking about “singing” you happy birthday, but it seems like everyone else got to it first. Instead I will sing you the song that the little troll of a choir director made us sing when one of the choir kids had a birthday.
This is sung to the tune of the “vogal boatman” very durge like.
Happy Birthday

And Knithulu is possibly the coolest thing I’ve seen since someone posted the link to the Flying Spaghetti Monster Dildo Cover. Congratulations on your corruption of future generations.

Will Knithulhu bring about the coming of the Old Yarns, to consume the worlds sheep and overtake the rational minds of sweaters to make the sweaters their mini-onions?

I agree, one day is far to short to celebrate ones birthday. Let’s start a ‘birthweek’ revolution!

Happy birthweek!
I know how you feel–my lab has forgotten my birthday twice in three years, despite the fact that it’s written on the giant calendar on the wall. The first year, I figured it was just respect for our tech, who was observing Ramadan; this year, they clearly just forgot, and there was a week of awkwardness until our highly-social person came back and asked about it.
