So, let’s say that you have a pair of friends, and this pair of friends has an adorable daughter who has just turned one.
And let’s say that you decided to knit their adorable daughter a Mason-Dixon Baby Kimono. You went stash diving, found a good yarn, and cast on. You got more than [...]

Things I’ve learned today:

How to cable without a cable needle. Grumperina is a goddess.
If you plan on changing your needle size after the ribbing…remember to change your needle size after the ribbing.
If you are designing your own project, and while changing patterns you discover that you have two extra stitches, you should stop and [...]

What’s wrong with this picture?

I’ll give you a hint…most babies have necks. If only it were a kimono for a Kaminoan. (Whaddya want? The site is called nerd knits.)
This could be a time for the gnashing of teeth. This could be a time for crying and cursing and frogging again. This could be a [...]

I’m not going to make it.
I have three projects on the needles which have deadlines, and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to make a damn one of them.
The Baby Kimono ideally would have been done on Saturday, but finishing it tomorrow would still be considered “on time.”

That’s not going to happen. As [...]

What’s the sound of one knitter frogging?

Rippit, rippit.

Of course it was too small. Did you ever think that there was a possibility that it wouldn’t be?
Even more crushingly, it was just a wee little bit too small. As in, I had 5.25 sts/inch, as opposed to 5 sts/inch. Which leaves me one inch short in the final estimation.
In [...]

No…wait. Correction. What a Saturday.
First, The Baby Shower of Doom.
I’ve been debating with myself about how much detail I want to go into here. It’s a very complex series of events that led to The Baby Shower of Doom. I think I’m going to try touch on the highlights and let [...]

Okay, a small part of me was crying into my screwdriver. But when the party around you rages on like this:

it’s difficult for even me to keep the tears flowing.
(Those are Depends he’s wearing – they came in a gift pack that also included Bengay and other elderly-type-things. Oh, and those are condoms [...]

Zee booties:

No, your eyes aren’t fooling you. The booties are not the same. This is intentional.
I started out using this pattern. Yeah, I noticed that the pattern says it’s for preemies, and that the baby that the booties are intended for is giving every indication that she will be full-term. But [...]

On days like today, I’m grateful I’m a knitter. Wrap my nice, cozy, hand-knit scarf around my neck; pull my nice, cozy, hand-knit hat down over my ears, and step out into the first pseudo-snow of the season.
It’s not really snow. It’s faux-snow. It looks like flakes in the sky, but it [...]

Baby Tart, blocked and done. Isn’t it precious? It’s really difficult to get good looking pictures – the cotton has a pretty sheen that washes out in the flash, and the bobbles are hard to see. All in all, I’m content with it…as long as the swearing I did at it doesn’t [...]
